A (___)'S GUIDE TO EVENTS

Creative Direction · Product & Packaging

A (___)’s Guide to Events is an editorial project developed through a Master’s program in Event and Exhibition Design, conceived as an open educational and community platform exploring how events are imagined, designed, and produced. The publication brings together student work from emerging event designers around the world, spanning temporary environments, brand activations, pop-ups, launches, immersive spaces, fashion events, concerts, festivals, hospitality concepts, stage design, and spatial storytelling. By documenting both process and outcome, the project makes the systems, roles, and creative decisions behind live experiences more visible and accessible.

As Art Director, Carmen Dillman shaped the magazine’s visual and editorial direction, overseeing the layout system, open call language, cover concept, and selection and presentation of student work. Drawing inspiration from Japanese independent magazines such as Popeye, she developed a playful collage-based visual language that brings together the objects, gestures, tools, and details associated with event production. Her role was to translate a broad field of research and student perspectives into a publication that feels cohesive, curious, and visually distinctive.
